Discovering Frugalisama: The Frugal Approach to Sewing and Crafting šŸ’šāœ‚ļø

I first came acrossĀ FrugalisamaĀ while scrolling through Instagram—my favourite platform for discovering new and inspiring ideas for my sewing projects. As soon as I saw what they were about, I knew I had to share them with you all! Frugalisama is all about making sewing accessible, affordable, and most importantly, fun. So, let me give you a peek into what Frugalisama is all about and why it’s so special.

Meet Sam, the Heart Behind Frugalisama 🌸🧵

FrugalisamaĀ is the brainchild ofĀ Sam Chandler, a talented sewist with a knack for finding the most frugal ways to enjoy sewing. On her website, she explains how she loves to sew but recognises that it can be an expensive hobby—so she made it her mission to help others cut costs and make this wonderful craft more accessible. Hence, Frugalisama: frugal, Sam, and just a little extra flair for good measure! 😊

Sam’s journey started over 30 years ago when her mum bought her a sewing machine while she was pregnant, as she couldn’t afford maternity clothes. She dabbled in and out of sewing for years, but her true obsession kicked in with the start ofĀ The Great British Sewing BeeĀ and discovering the incredible online sewing community. This led her to not only start her blog but also herĀ YouTube channel, where she shares practical tips, pattern reviews, and tutorials to help others on their sewing journey.

Crafting, Walking, and the Good Life šŸ¾šŸ»

Sam’s life is all about balance, filled with the things she loves—sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, and long walks in the countryside with her rescue Springer Spaniel,Ā Rogue. She describes Rogue as loving sticks, balls, and getting muddy—not always ideal for fabric faffing, but too adorable not to be around. When Sam isn’t crafting or walking Rogue, you might find her at her local pub enjoying a cider and putting the world to rights. Sounds like the perfect mix of creativity, relaxation, and a little bit of adventure! šŸ¶šŸ’š

The Mission: Accessible Sewing for All šŸ’øāœØ

What really drew me to Frugalisama is Sam’s mission to make sewing accessible and affordable for everyone. She’s real and relatable—don’t expect lifestyle photos of her staring at her feet, but instead genuine shots of everyday clothes that actually get worn. Her approach is all about practicality and creativity, with a focus on saving money while building a wardrobe that fits you and your lifestyle.

Through herĀ YouTube channelĀ and blog, Sam shares the kind of down-to-earth sewing content that we all need—full of helpful hints and honest reflections. And, it’s not just about sewing. Sam is fostering a community where people can pitch in their own ideas for creating a frugal yet fabulous wardrobe. She truly embodies the spirit of the sewing community, where everyone helps each other grow. šŸŒæšŸ¤—

Exciting News: Frugalisama Workshops in West Yorkshire! šŸŽ‰šŸ§¶

Since launching her blog and YouTube channel, Sam has been able to take Frugalisama to the next level by offering sewing and craft workshops inĀ Horbury, just outsideĀ Wakefield, West Yorkshire. This is such exciting news for anyone local who wants to join in on the fun! The workshops include beginner and intermediate sewing, dressmaking, and evenĀ Sewcials—community sessions where everyone can sew and socialise together. Sam also offers sessions on learning new fibre-related crafts, making her studio a welcoming and educational hub for crafters of all levels.

Although her website is currently undergoing a revamp, you can still find all her classes available throughĀ Eventbrite—and I can’t wait to see what new things are in store once the site is updated! The idea of a community space dedicated to helping people get started with sewing or improve their skills is exactly what makes the sewing world so special. It’s all about connection, growth, and creativity.
